Monte Roulier is Co-Founder and President of Community Initiatives (CI), a network of professionals and partner organizations dedicated to building healthy and whole communities. As a consultant, coach, and facilitator he has helped a wide range of communities, coalitions and national initiatives use collaborative approaches to achieve and sustain desired results. Monte and the CI team are actively engaged as strategic advisors and technical assistance providers for several leading national efforts aimed at improving community health and preventing chronic disease — with a strong emphasis on shaping the policies and the environments that lead to healthier people and places. These efforts include work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the YMCA of the USA. CI team brings a breadth of expertise to these initiatives in areas that include: collaborative leadership, coalition development, strategy development, sustainability and peer learning.
Prior to CI, Monte served as Director of Client Education & Consulting Services for Quality Data Management, a health informatics company providing innovative quality improvement tools and software to healthcare systems. He also played a leading role in the development of Workforce Engage™, a web-based solution for measuring and identifying opportunities to improve the levels of social capital (trust) and employee engagement in health systems.Uncovering ways to grow a deeper sense of community—within organizations, community settings and virtual networks—is one of Monte’s ongoing passions.
As Senior Community Advisor for the National Civic League (NCL), an advocacy organization for citizen democracy and political reform, Monte led their nationally recognized Healthy Communities Program. He also served as President of Service Adventures, Incorporated (SAI), and an organization that combined volunteerism, education, and sustainable development. At SAI, he helped guide multi-disciplinary teams of specialists and international volunteers to establish key National Parks and Protected Area systems in Russia and Central Asia. Monte co-led a National Geographic sponsored team of scientists and volunteers that discovered and documented the world's longest dinosaur footprint track-way in northern Turkmenistan. While working in Central Asia, he was a member of the Save the Children team that initiated a successful micro-credit banking system in Tajikistan.
Monte was a founding board member and chair of the Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH). He is also a volunteer in his local community as a Board member of the PedNet Coalition. Monte is a graduate of DePauw University with a B.A. in Political Science and Communications, and studied Political Science/Economics at Oxford University, England. Monte lives in Columbia, MO with his wife and three children.
